Dandelion Dreams

once more
to lie
amid a haze,
a deep yellow-green field
of dandelions.

their pungent order
so bitter sweet
fills the long liquid
days of summer.

as she, suspended...
in one
brilliant
moment of sunlight...
slowly, bends
to pick this heady brew
the last feast of seasons end

melanie,
you have stilled my heart.
laid me face up on a sunwarm hillside and brought my own grandmothers face hovering above me in this impossibly tender poem.
thank you for brightening my moment.

beautiful tender writing.

Hi Melanie~ I love how your entire poem uses imagery, sensory images. It evokes so much emotion, like a haiku. I feel the longing, the regret that comes from knowing this is the last dandelion wine, the last of summer. An amazing poem.

Looking forward to those "long liquid days of summer." Really like how you draw out the 3rd stanza as a suspension to mirror your words.

I love a poem that puts a picture in my head, and makes me want to be there. Love this.

I dig poems that make me feel like I'm somewhere else, which your piece does masterfully. :D

Filled with the still, seething longing of summer. This poem took my breath away.

I remember the pure joy of gathering dandelion bouquets on my childhood wanderings and presenting them to my mother. I remember the pure joy of receiving dandelion bouquets from my children --- offerings straight from their hearts. (I also remember them raiding the neighbor's garden, but that's a different story.)

Lovely: I was transported to that warm, fragrant field.
