Masks We Wear

the masks we wear
each day carrying them
hiding behind placid faces
unknown, untouched they cling
growing heavy as we walk the years
we are what they seem
or are we something more
in private, behind drawn shades
it slips to the floor
revealing the monster that is me

Wow you have written some strong but real lines here. Isn't it true that we wear so many masks in our lifetime?

Melanie that is absolutely beautiful. And rings so true.
