The River Swift

my swollen heart bleeds
a river overflowing
it's raw jagged banks

tears pool here and there
as winters frozen snow melts
pale blood left behind

gone his loving care
gone his quiet gentle smile
gone his words of love

empty is my heart
cold my skin has now become
numb my world grows dim

my floating body
caught in a whirlpool of ice
soon sinks from all time

The desolating and overwhelming feelings of a lost love - well captured. I like the image with it as well!

Thanks becca. Glad you liked it. I am in a kind of blue mood these days.

This is lovely. I especially liked:

tears pool here and there

showing how sadness can collect in places.

Oowee, Melany ~~ This one has a surprise ending and YOU lulled me into it. I knew it was going to be sad but not to the death. ;)
..
BTW, of the seven posts I have read, four sequed from 'river' to 'love.' Equal, two from each sex (includes mine).

I am sorry you are in a blue mood. I have known those. They put the muse on a bitter diet, but they are not forever. Beautiful poem.

A sad love poem but it is so stunning. It's wonderful to capture all the emotions that you are feeling sometimes. I certainly hope you are feeling better Melanie :)

It did end a bit sadly and the picture is so apt for the softly flowing words you have woven!! The third verse shows great yearning of the empty heart!!

Throes of sadness for the warmth of someone dear but not around nearby. Many may relate to this at one time or the other. Excellent write!

My friend Jim, we all seemed to think of love as being a river in our lives and so it is.
