The Clowns

painted white faces
black circles under glass eyes
friendly...they do not smile

they creep towards me
in somersaults spinning
to music only they can hear

I am trapped by their stares
daddy, daddy I whisper
tugging on his arm...he does not notice

slowly, nearer and nearer
I want to scream...
I want to run...

reaching with white gloved hands
now, I frozen with fear, jump up
the lights go dark and I drift away

Ooooo that is so creepy. I've never, ever like clowns. To me they have always never been what they appear to be.
This just reinforces that feeling...Yuck.. Creepy. Great writing!

i don't get the phobia some people have for clowns. my son studied to be a clown, has a name and everything, but never practices that art

You drew such an accurate picture of clowns that it made my clown phobia bubble to the surface. Great phrasing, and I like the rhythm that makes it so readable. Love it!

Isn't it odd the way a clown who is supposed to bring humor can be mysteriously eerie. It must be the make-up hiding something more.
Well done,

whoo. I feel the speaker's fear here.
I (the reader) am left wondering, why daddy?
this poem is intense, powerful, potent, and successful.
the short but powerful build up was energetic.
thank you for the good poem.

Great poem--I can finally understand why some would be scared of clowns!
